Dogs and Soldiers.

While clearing out the DVR tonight, we came across a news item on a cool thing happening here in DC between Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Washington Humane Society. Some soldiers recovering at Walter Reed are involved in a six-month program where they train and work with shelter dogs. At the end, the soldiers are certified dog trainers, and the dogs learn great skills that make them more adoptable.

(Here's another article on the program.)

How cool is this?!

I've heard about programs where inmates train service dogs for veterans, and groups that help place dogs with vets with PTSD, but this is the first I've heard of where soldiers were doing the training. I think all three are just super-- it really points out the healing power of pets.
